Queen Pullout Storage Trundle – Kristy Collection

All Posts, Free Plans

These plans are for the middle section of the Kristy Collection Queen platform bed. This section includes a pullout storage trundle that spans the full length of the bed. The top section of the bed is the storage bench. That is followed by the side boxes in the Queen Platform Bed with Storage

Pullout Storage Trundle

By now you have built two of the side boxes.   Possibly the Drawers and Drawer Fronts.  Now you’re ready for the center section, the pullout storage trundle. This section will space your side boxes the correct distance apart and support the middle of your mattress.  platform storage bed plans

There is no bottom on this box as the casters need to be able to run in and out.  Once you build this box, you’ll move the side cabinets in on either side.  Make sure you keep the front of the middle section square while you shove the side parts in.  There is a back on this middle section but not a front so you can push it out of square if you aren’t careful.  Measure to make sure the spacing is the same in the front as it is in the back.

If you are building wardrobe towers on either side of the Storage Bench, you’ll want to wait until after those are built to add the large face on the outside of the entire platform bed as shown in the picture below.  If you are not building towers, you can add a decorative face as shown below but have it extend all the way to the head of the entire bed.

Build trundle

Buy your casters before you build the box so you make sure not to build something too high that won’t fit in the space you have.  For this long of a  trundle, 6 casters are needed.

Build a simple box making sure it will fit easily in side the middle cavity.  I  have us a little wiggle room.  The length of

You’ll want to build drawer fronts like you did for the sides that fit the faceframe on the end of the bed.  Make one that fits the center space as well and on that one, you can add false bottom faceframe rail (horizontal piece) behind it so it matches the sides.

No one would ever know there is a big ‘ole storage box behind there!

She looks to be using Google Sketchup. There is a free version that is still quite good.

I’d love it if there was a printable version with a material and cutting layout of the trundle and the bed.
