Craft Room – IL House Tour

All Posts, Illinois House, My Home

amazing craft roomThe last room on my IL house tour is the Craft Room!
This space was SO much fun to design and build!  It was MY space.  No one else’s wants, needs, input or concerns to consider.  Just whatever my craft lov’in heart desired (and I could bring to fruition!)
I planned out the height of each drawer specifically for certain tools and gadgets.
I imagined where I would want to stand to cut fabric and how to get in lots of “stations” in case I wanted to host a craft night!

large craft room island

Where I would sit while scrapbooking?  Facing the TV with Woodsmith Shop playing in the background, of course!  Made sure I had outlets in all the right places for times I’d need a glue or embossing gun?
Spacious built in storage cabinets in craft room.
I had to create a large enough work surface for my “sewing station” to have the sewing machine and the serger both out at the same time and added under cabinet lighting for good measure!

Craft room in my IL house

Last but not least, I’d need a great big closet to create even more storage for whatever my little heart might ever decide I just couldn’t live without…and could talk myself into purchasing.
IL house tour craft room
And that is my Craft Room.
I haven’t actually used it so I don’t know if all my planning translated into optimum functionality for my crafting needs, but I’d like to imagine that it did!

That’s it.

That is the end of my IL house tour.
I have loved and hated parts of making this ugly duckling the swan it always wanted to be.  Now I’m done.
Maybe a little too soon.
I didn’t get to finish everything, but the hubby decided that he wanted this job in Tennessee so I’m willing to move on to my next adventure.
Now all I can do is sit back, wait for a decent offer, and maybe — just maybe, get a little use out of some of these undiscovered rooms!

OMG. I WANT that room! I have a scrapping room, too, and I wanted built-ins but hubby argued that for resale value, since we only had 2 bedrooms, one couldn't be permanently not a spare room, so I have only pieces of furniture, not the cohesive look I dreamed of…Now YOUR room??? THAT is EXACTLY what I wanted…

That is heartbreaking. A place for a sewing machine AND a serger!? lol, I can't believe you had the energy to build cabinetry for every single room in your house, if anyone needs a show on HGTV it's you!I did finally buy my first nail gun and pancake compressor, and now I'm just trying to find some time to use it. Darn all these kids! 😉

I'm having some serious, serious envy here. Now I love the rest of your house. So comfy and inviting. But this room is amazing. I love that it is connected to the kids space but is YOUR space. All the choices, all the storage, all the counter spaces, and all the seating options. Wow!!!!! And I love the cream cablinets with the wood floor. Looks so clean and meticulous- two other things that speak to my heart. Great job! So excited to see the new house when you get it and see what it becomes.

I often think myself to sleep with visions of craft room designs dancing in my head.Yours is absolute perfection. Although, mine would be some funky color I'm sure (because I have a hard enough time keeping sane colors in my LIVING room…). And it would have a locking door, so I wouldn't have to worry about my kids messing it up.

Would it be okay with you if I copied this room – right down to the color of the paint on the island and the color of the pendant lights? 🙂 I agree with Andrea, though, it must have a locking door. Too many little hands in this house! Just B U T Full! And I am sorry not to have anything to post for tomorrow – it is still too cold here to kick the vehicles out of the garage and reclaim my "workshop" (half the garage) but soon! Oh, Spring, I can almost smell you and you smell like sawdust!!

I just love your blog. I started blogging myself about 6 months ago, it’s a slow build, but I love it. Your site has encouraged me when I need it, and has helped me to learn to slow down with my larger projects and take my time. Because I blog, I always felt I needed to rush everything in a week or two and get it right onto the blog. Watching your progress has helped me find that balance. I have to say I enjoy building more than anything, as I can see you do to. I appreciate all you share and post each day.
